The Gibson County Redevelopment Commission has approved a major expansion of the economic development area that includes Toyota Motor Manufacturing Inc. in Princeton. Gibson County Economic Development Corp. President Todd Mosby says the classification would open up the property for residential, commercial or industrial investment.
Mosby says the EDA would allow parts of the more than 160,000 total acres to be associated with an EDA and set up for future consideration as potential Tax Increment Financing Districts. The area would stretch into property adjacent to the I-69 expansion.
He calls the roughly year-long process to identify and work toward the EDA a “necessary” step for county leaders to achieve their future development goals. Mosby says it shows potential employers and investors throughout the state and country that Gibson County is “progressive” in its approach to development. He says it also demonstrates that the community is working toward millions and millions of dollars worth of possible infrastructure improvements and connectivity that have been studied along the I-69 corridor.
Mosby adds the county and southwest Indiana have traditionally been slow to make changes that could lead to future development. He says expanding the EDA is a more proactive approach to showcasing Gibson County in the same positive light developers see when considering projects in high-growth communities throughout the state.
