The Kokomo Tribune reports Steve and Darlene Daniels, who bought the Bunker Hill Dragstrip in the 1990s, have considered selling it for years. The venue opened in the mid-1950s.
The dragstrip, which also includes a house, restaurant and barn, is on the market for $650,000. It sits on 23 acres in Miami County.
Real Estate Agent Gena Martin is marketing this property. She tells the Tribune her team shopped the dragstrip around at this year's Indianapolis 500.
The publication says the track itself was built by the original owners atop the gravel base of an old interurban railroad line. It was repaved in 2010 and in 2012, the Daniels added the Outpost Bar and Grill on the property.
Steve Daniels tells the Tribune the recent rough patch in the economy has upped the level of competition for entertainment dollars. He hopes the buyer will be a “younger, more energetic, newer, promotional-marketing-idea type of person” who can help attract sponsorship dollars.
He said racing may or may not live on under new ownership and tells the publication “if someone negotiates a sale and decided they want to do something different, that's their prerogative, as long as it aligns with community standards.
