Fort Wayne, Ind. — The Indiana University-Purdue University (IPFW) community rolled out the blue carpet tonight to celebrate 50 years as northeast Indiana's leader in public higher education.
The 50th Celebration Blue Tie Gala was capped off with an exciting gift announcement by Chancellor Vicky L. Carwein: 50 endowments totaling over $2.5 million have been established in celebration of IPFW's 50th anniversary year with over $2.3 million going directly to students in scholarships.
Last fall, IPFW received a $3.4 million gift from the estate of Oscar and Ophelia Weitzman, also dedicated to scholarships. In the past four years alone, almost $6 million has been raised to directly support students, bringing the total of “all” scholarship support to over $45 million.
“Scholarships are so important to our students, and for many, without scholarship support, a bachelor's or graduate degree would simply not be possible,” said Chancellor Carwein. “We are so very thankful for the generosity of those who provide these scholarship funds and for the opportunities they afford our students.”
