INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The City of Indianapolis, Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD) is now accepting proposals for projects to transform formerly underutilized or vacant land and/or buildings into economically viable urban farms or urban agriculture related businesses. These proposed projects will provide connections to fresh produce for surrounding communities and allow for nutritional education in neighborhoods considered food deserts.
The funding for the projects is part of the 2015 U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs. $500,000 is available this year and another $500,000 in 2016. The Request for Proposal (RFP) process will end at 12:00pm on May 18th, 2015. Award announcements are anticipated to be made the week of June 8th, 2015.
