Another Indiana community is taking aim at the skills gap. Greensburg Community Schools is partnering with several area employers including Valeo, Honda Manufacturing of Indiana LLC and GECOM Corp. on a vocational center. The program provides high school students with paid internships and career paths in areas ranging from electronic maintenance to welding and robotics. Greensburg Community Schools Superintendent Tom Hunter says the district invested $2 million to build and equip the facility. Hunter and GECOM's Amy Bray discussed the effort on Inside INdiana Business Television. Other companies partnering on the center include Hitachi Powdered Metals, Steel Technologies Inc., Wood-Mizer, MESCO MFG. and the Decatur County Builders Association.

Program organizers say a survey among local companies found the following industry needs:

1. Maintenance: Electronic / Electrical

2. Pneumatics & Hydraulics

3. Robotics: Operators, Programming, Trouble-shooting

4. Welding

5. CNC & CAD operating

Building and construction companies also listed the following areas of need:

1. Electrical

2. Plumbing

3. Masonry

4. Framing

5. Welding
