The DWD is giving $130,000 to five organizations who will manage the apprenticeship programs. The agency says the grant recipients will collaborate with employers and help connect students to job opportunities.
The five organizations are:
- Indiana Department of Education – Early Childhood Registered Apprenticeship Program
- Trine University – Teacher Registered Apprenticeship Program
- Indiana University – Registered Apprenticeship K-12 Teacher
- Ivy Tech Community College, Kokomo – Teacher Registered Apprenticeship Program
- Ivy Tech Community College, Indianapolis – Surgical Technology Registered Apprenticeship Program
Jason Graves, Senior Director of DWD’s Office of Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship, said in a press release that supporting job training opportunities is important for the state.
“We know that Registered Apprenticeship Programs are a key strategy to creating a robust pipeline of Hoosier talent that positively impacts Indiana’s economic strength,” Graves said. “We are thrilled to be able to fund and support Registered Apprenticeship Programs through Group Sponsorship.”
The money in the latest DWD grant ultimately comes from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration. In total, Indiana was awarded over $1.2 million to expand registered apprenticeship programs.
