The first Ripley County Film Fest will run June 2-7, according to a foundation news release. Local filmmakers are encouraged to submit a film of 5 to 30 minutes in any genre to be screened at two of the only remaining single-screen theaters in the area: the Gibson Theatre in Batesville and the Damm Theatre in Osgood.
“The arts are a vital part of any community, fostering creativity, imagination, and a sense of place,” foundation Executive Director Amy Streator said. “We are excited to support the Ripley County Film Fest as a way to celebrate the talents of our local filmmakers and provide a platform for their stories to be shared.”
The event is funded in part by a $4,000 Arts Project Support grant from the Indiana Arts Commission. The grant program aligns with the vision for the film fest, the foundation said, because both provide public access to the arts, give opportunities to underserved communities and support Hoosier artists “who are a vital part of Indiana’s economy and community life.”
Each night of the film fest will feature screenings of the locally submitted short films followed by Hollywood movies. The festival culminates on June 7 with a special showcase of the week’s winning short films.
The submission deadline is April 1. For more information and to submit a short film, visit the foundation website at rccfonline.org.
