US Rep. Baird to speak at Purdue winter commencement

Baird, whose district includes West Lafayette, earned a bachelor’s and a master’s in animal science from Purdue’s College of Agriculture in 1967 and 1969 respectively. He also served in the Purdue University ROTC before attending officer candidate school.
Purdue’s winter graduating class will include 2,345 undergraduates, 1,241 graduate students, 15 students from professional programs and 50 students from Purdue Polytechnic Institute’s statewide programs.
The Dec. 15 ceremony will mark the first commencement for students graduating from Purdue’s expansion in Indianapolis.
Baird, who lives in Greencastle, represents 16 Indiana counties and serves on the House Agriculture Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee.
Purdue’s graduation ceremonies are divided into three ceremonies based on colleges and programs. Tickets are required.
Each ceremony will have a student speaker: Omar Abdel-Reheem of Orland Park, Illinois, who is to receive a bachelor’s in finance and economics; Nicholas Chrysogelos of Orleans, Massachusetts, who is receiving a dual bachelor’s in aviation management and in atmospheric science; and Nicole Nagel of West Lafayette, who is receiving a bachelor’s in biomedical engineering.
