Indianapolis, Ind. — Today, Governor Mike Pence appointed Kelly Mitchell to serve as Indiana Treasurer of State for the remainder of the current term ending on December 31, 2014. Mitchell will complete the term formerly held by Richard Mourdock and most recently occupied by Daniel Huge. Mitchell was sworn in this morning in a private ceremony in the Statehouse.
“Kelly Mitchell was the people's choice for Indiana Treasurer of State, and I am grateful that she is willing to assume the duties of this office early and begin what will be a distinguished tenure of service for the people of Indiana,” said Pence.
Kelly Mitchell was elected on November 4 to serve as Treasurer of State beginning January 1, 2015. Most recently, she served for six years as Director of TrustINdiana in the Treasurer’s Office. Prior to this role, Mitchell worked in business development for United Consulting and, earlier, as County Commissioner, the youngest in the state, for two terms in Cass County.
Governor Pence also thanked Huge for serving as Treasurer of State in an interim capacity beginning on August 29 of this year.
“Dan Huge brought 30 years of financial, accounting and audit experience to the table and served Hoosiers well as Treasurer of State for nearly three months,” said Pence. “On behalf of Indiana, I thank Dan for his devoted service as demonstrated throughout his time in this role.”
