When complete, the solar farm will provide energy to Meta, the parent of Facebook and Instagram, which is building a massive data center campus in southern Indiana.
Zelestra, which has its U.S. operations based in San Francisco, California, and Atlanta, Georgia, says the 60-megawatt solar farm will help advance Indiana’s renewable energy efforts.
“This project not only represents a significant step forward for Zelestra, but also reinforces our commitment to contribute to the sustainable development of the communities where we operate and provide our customers with innovative technological solutions,” CEO Leo Moreno said in a news release.
Details of Zelestra’s financial investment in the project were not disclosed. Inside INdiana Business was unable to reach the company for additional information.
The company has tapped renewable energy company Greening, headquartered in Grenada, to construct the solar farm, which will be built on 452 acres in Jasper County.
Construction is expected to be complete in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to Greening.
Meta announced in January plans to invest $800 million to establish a data center campus at the River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville and create 100 jobs.
While Zelestra said Meta has signed an environmental attributes purchase agreement to acquire the energy generated at the Jasper County solar farm, it was not immediately clear if that energy would be used to power the data center campus.
However, Arizona-based Arevon Energy Inc. said in August that it had signed a similar agreement with Meta to provide energy from its Heirloom Solar Project in Petersburg for Meta’s regional operations.
