While the full financial investment is not being disclosed, the project is being funded in part by a $30 million gift from The Dean and Barbara White Family Foundation in Merrillville.
The gift was first announced in November 2023 and is the largest gift ever received by the Franciscan Health Foundation.
The three-story, 71,000-square-foot facility—being built on the Franciscan Health Crown Point hospital campus at the southeast corner of Interstate 65 and U.S. 231—will consolidate the hospital’s cancer care services into one location, the health system said in a news release.
“With this cancer center, our goal is to provide convenient cancer screenings, early diagnosis and treatment, including important clinical trials, advanced surgical expertise and radiation therapies in a beautiful and convenient location,” said Franciscan Health Crown Point CEO Daniel McCormick. “Providing kind, considerate and well-connected care throughout a family’s journey through oncology treatment and recovery lives our mission out loud and we are very pleased to have such an aligned partner in the White family.”
A spokesperson for Franciscan declined to say how many jobs would be created as a result of the project.
The new cancer center is slated to open in early 2027.
