The mayor’s office said the proposal features a balanced budget with a 5% reduction in the city’s tax rate, along with a number of investments.
It is the first budget proposal for Tucker, who was sworn in as mayor in April following the death of former mayor Tom Henry the previous month.
“Fort Wayne is a city that continues to grow and succeed with fiscal discipline as a top priority,” Tucker said in a news release. “With this being my first budget as mayor, I’m impressed with the attention to detail that’s been demonstrated by the division and department heads. We share a common commitment to protecting taxpayers and meeting the needs of a community that expects and deserves excellent services.”
The budget includes nearly $48 million in neighborhood infrastructure improvements, including $35 million for streets, roads and bridges, $7.5 million for sidewalks and alleys, and $2.3 million for trails.
Tucker’s administration will formally present the budget to the Fort Wayne City Council at its Sept. 24 meeting.
“I’m looking forward to positive and productive dialogue with City Council as we work together to pass a budget that’s forward thinking and positions Fort Wayne for current and future success,” said Tucker.
