The company plans to invest $60 million to set up shop in the River Ridge Commerce Center and create nearly 200 jobs.
The investment will support new machinery and equipment, as well as upgrades to an existing building that previously was the home of Illinois-based Enjoy Life Foods.
One Southern Indiana, the chamber of commerce and economic development organization for Clark and Floyd counties, said in a news release that 1440 Foods has committed to a long-term lease of the facility, though specific terms of the lease were not detailed.
1440 Foods’ portfolio includes popular brands such as Pure Protein nutrition bars, Body Fortress protein powders, and MET-Rx meal replacements.
“The opening of the Jeffersonville location is a significant milestone in our plan to make protein-rich snacking options accessible to as many people as possible,” 1440 Foods Board Chairman Alexandre Médicis said in the release. “We considered several locations but found that Jeffersonville was perfect due to its proximity to major transportation channels and availability of a skilled and ready workforce.”
The company has begun hiring for leadership and administrative positions at the new location, with plans to hire for various production roles–including team leads, material handlers, packers, and line operators–set to begin later this year.
The jobs will come with wages ranging from $18.50 to $33 per hour, depending on the position, the company said.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has committed up to $3.7 million in incentive-based tax credits, up to $500,000 in training grants, and up to $200,000 in Manufacturing Readiness Grants for the project. 1440 Foods will not be eligible to claim the incentives until area residents are hired for the new jobs.
“The City of Jeffersonville is excited that 1440 Foods has chosen the River Ridge Commerce Center as the location for their newest state-of-art manufacturing facility,” Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore said. “This significant investment is a great addition to our growing network of food and beverage industry partners, and we are confident they will find long-term success by employing 200 local residents.
The company expects to begin production in Jeffersonville next year. Officials will hold a groundbreaking event on May 22.
