The city said the $5.3 million Purple Heart Parkway Extension will help drive ongoing and future projects, including new housing, retail, and grocery developments.
The project will extend Purple Heart Parkway from U.S. 231 South to Ladoga Road in Crawfordsville, which Montgomery County Commissioner Dan Guard said will unlock a thousand acres for economic development and housing opportunities.
The project using being funded with a $2.3 million in Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative, or READI, grant. The remaining cost of the project is being split between the city and county.
“The extension of Purple Heart Parkway to Ladoga Road is a major step forward in preparing for logical, planned growth in Crawfordsville and Montgomery County,” Crawfordsville Mayor Todd Barton said in a news release. “This investment in infrastructure is serving as a catalyst for many other projects that will enhance our community and illustrates the collective ability of the city and county working closely together to position us well in today’s competitive environment.”
Construction on the project has begun and is expected to be substantially complete by this fall.
Bloomington-based Crider & Crider is serving as the contractor for the project.
