The event will also mark the return of commercial air service to the airport with a ceremonial first flight.
The Purdue board of trustees approved construction of the new terminal last August. The university announced in February that the terminal would be named after the first female aviator to fly alone across the Atlantic Ocean who was also a Purdue instructor.
The 9,400-square-foot terminal building will be located directly west of the existing airport terminal and include ticketing, passenger screening, baggage claim and a waiting area.
Construction on the terminal is expected to be complete in August 2025.
In December, Purdue announced a partnership with California-based Surf Air Mobility Inc. to begin scheduled commuter air service between West Lafayette and O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, marking the first time commercial service has run through the Purdue Airport in 20 years.
The groundbreaking and ceremonial first flight will be held May 14 at the airport with remarks from Purdue President Mung Chiang.
The new service to Chicago will officially begin on May 15. You can learn more about the service by clicking here.
