U.S. News & World Report is out with its annual ranking of the “Best U.S. High Schools,” and one Indiana school has maintained its position near the top.

The publication said Tuesday that the highest-ranked public schools had students who achieved exceptional scores on state assessments for math, reading, and science, and also had strong underserved student performance, college readiness and curriculum breadth, and high graduation rates.

Nearly 18,000 schools across the country were ranked this year, and Signature School in Evansville held onto its No. 2 spot on the list. It is the only Indiana school included in the top 100 of the national ranking.

Only BASIS Peoria school in Arizona ranked higher on this year’s list.

The schools were also ranked within their own states. Over 300 Indiana schools made the statewide list in 2024, including:

11. Hamilton Southeastern High School – Fishers
12. Burris Laboratory School – Muncie
13. Morgan Township Middle/High School – Valparaiso
14. Avon High School – Avon
15. Brownsburg High School – Brownsburg
16. Bloomington High School South – Bloomington
17. Valparaiso High School – Valparaiso
18. Carroll High School – Fort Wayne
19. Noblesville High School – Noblesville
20. Homestead Senior High School – Fort Wayne
21. Floyd Central High School – Floyd Knobs
22. Washington Twp Middle/High School – Valparaiso
23. Castle High School – Newburgh
