News Release
Employers in Indiana expect to hire at a positive pace during the fourth quarter of 2014, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.
From October to December, 18% of the companies interviewed plan to hire more employees, while 8 percent expect to reduce their payrolls. Another 73 percent expect to maintain their current staff levels and 1 percent are not certain of their hiring plans. This yields a Net Employment Outlook* of 10%.
“For the fourth quarter, survey results show employers are less confident about job prospects compared to Quarter 3 when the Net Employment Outlook was 17%,” said Manpower spokesperson Pat Hevrdejs. “Compared to one year ago when the Net Employment Outlook was 5%, employers anticipate a stronger hiring pace.”
The Net Employment Outlook is derived by taking the percentage of employers anticipating an increase in hiring activity and subtracting from this the percentage of employers expecting a decrease in hiring activity.
For the coming quarter, job prospects appear best in Construction, Durable Goods Manufacturing, Wholesale & Retail Trade, Information, Professional & Business Services, Education & Health Services, Leisure & Hospitality, Other Services and Government. Employers in Nondurable Goods Manufacturing and Financial Activities plan to reduce staffing levels, while hiring in Transportation & Utilities is expected to remain unchanged.
