Indiana unemployment stays flat in February

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Friday that the state added 2,800 private sector jobs over January.
The DWD said Indiana’s total private employment stands at 2,845,200. The state primarily saw job gains in the private, educational and health services; manufacturing; leisure and hospitality; professional and business services; and construction sectors.
The state’s labor force participation rate fell two-tenths of a percent to 62.8%, which remains above the national rate, which stayed flat at 62.5%. The labor force, which includes residents who are either employed or seeking employment, stands at 3,389,372, down nearly 8,700 from the previous month.
The DWD said the state had 101,325 open job postings as of March 18, while 25,154 unemployment insurance claims were filed as of the week ending March 2.
The state’s unemployment rate is lower than the national rate, which rose two-tenths of a percent to 3.9% in February.
