Indiana is ranked No. 3 in Site Selection Magazine’s annual list of the top 100 micropolitans with 13 Hoosier communities having new corporate facility projects underway.

Leading Indiana was Angola, which is the No. 3 ranked micropolitan overall in the U.S. with 10 projects, according to the magazine. The other Indiana communities were Richmond at No. 13 (six projects), Warsaw and Huntington at No. 17 (each with five), Marion at No. 29 (four), Logansport at No. 44 (three), and Connersville, Crawfordsville, Decatur, Plymouth, Seymour, Wabash and Washington tied at No. 84 (each with two).

A micropolitan statistical area is an urban area with a population of at least 10,000 but less than 50,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. To be included in Site Selection’s list, the projects must meet at least one of three criteria: capital investment of at least $1 million, at least 20 new jobs, or at least 20,000 square feet.

Angola moved up six places from last year’s rank by the magazine.

“Northeast Indiana communities have a business-friendly climate, skilled workforce, and accessibility to key markets,” Stephane Frijia, president and CEO of the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, said in a news release.

Decatur, Huntington, Wabash and Warsaw also are in the northeastern region of the state.

The No. 1 ranked states by Site Selection Magazine were Ohio and Georgia with 15 communities each. The No. 1 overall city was Findlay, Ohio, with 25 projects.
