Dalton Enterprises is opening a manufacturing facility in Michigan City after outgrowing its location in Wisconsin, the company said in a news release.
The company is setting up shop at 200 Lumber Center Road, and President John Dalton said its team of fabricators is working with local plumbers, electricians and contractors to build the equipment needed to be fully operational later this year.
A spokesperson for Dalton told Inside INdiana Business the company chose Michigan City because it wanted a business-friendly location that is close to its customers and suppliers.
“We appreciate the warm welcome from the Hoosier state and the Michigan City community as we relocate to accommodate our expanded needs,” Dalton said in the release.
The Michigan City location will employ up to seven full-time employees and add 15-20 seasonal workers during the summer. Financial terms of the company’s investment are not being disclosed.
“Exciting times when you have a family-owned business relocate to the city,” Mayor Angiel Nelson Deuitch said in the release. “Michigan City will continue to work with our career tech center and our education system along with our EDC to make sure we build the capacity for manufacturers to move into Michigan City.”
Dalton Enterprises manufactures a variety of pavement coating products such as sealers and additives, as well as recreational coatings used on tennis, basketball and pickleball courts, and running tracks.
The company also has satellite plants in California and Georgia.
