The company said in an updated WARN notice filed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development that some operations at the facility will continue until April 6.
Last August, Tyson announced it was closing four chicken processing plants in the U.S., including the Corydon facility at 545 Valley Road. The Corydon closure was originally slated to take place on March 1, with 368 employees being affected.
In the updated notice, Tyson said it still expects to cease most operations on March 1, but decided to continue the facility’s marinated raw breading operations until April 6, at which point all operations will cease and the complex will permanently close.
About 133 employees will be retained through the new closing date. Tyson said because of the nature of its business, about 35 additional employees will be retained after April 6 to assist with the plant closure.
Some of the workers being retained are represented by the United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 227.
A Tyson spokesperson told Inside INdiana Business last August that the affected employees are being encouraged to apply for open positions within the company and will assist with relocation benefits where applicable.
Tyson Foods also has Indiana operations in Logansport and Portland.
The other chicken processing facilities slated to close are located in North Little Rock, Arkansas; Dexter, Missouri and Noel, Missouri.
