In a notice to the state, Integra LifeSciences said the move will result in the layoffs of 60 employees by the end of April.
The Lafayette facility manufactures tissue products and technologies for hernia, abdominal wall repair, and wound reconstruction.
An Integra spokesperson said the work performed in Lafayette will transition to the company’s facility in Columbia, Maryland.
“As part of our integrated growth strategy, we continually evaluate ways we can strengthen our operational efficiency to better serve our customers, innovate new treatment pathways and maximize the impact we have on restoring patients’ lives,” Integra said in a statement to IIB. “We are committed to facilitating a smooth transition of our manufacturing operations to ensure no disruption to customers that have come to depend on these products for their patients. We greatly appreciate the valuable contributions our Lafayette colleagues have made to Integra, our customers, and patients.”
The WARN notice filed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, said the first round of layoffs will take place on April 26 with another round scheduled for May 31.
The company said it is providing support and transition services to the affected employees, working closely with the Rapid Response team at the WorkOne office in Lafayette. The workers are not represented by a union.
The closure is expected to be permanent, and Integra does not have any other facilities in Indiana.
