Chuck Binkerd has more than 40 years of experience working in local government and economic development and since 2012 has led Marion Utilities as its executive director.
Over the next few months Binkerd will transition out of his current role into his new position over the next few months, the council said in a Thursday news release.
The appointment by the council’s board of directors follows a nationwide search to fill the role.
“We are ecstatic to have found such a fantastic professional to lead the organization and the Grant County community into the future,” Marion Mayor Ronald Morrell Jr. said in the release. “As we begin this new chapter, there is no doubt that Chuck will drive collaboration and innovation that yield positive results for the residents and businesses in Grant County.”
Binkerd has been involved with the Grant County Economic Growth Council for more than a decade, the news release said, and has been a member of Marion Community Revitalization Enhancement District board for more than 20 years. He previously led utilities for the Grissom Redevelopment Authority and the city of Peru, Indiana.
The council declined to provide information on Binkerd’s predecessor and why that person stepped down from the role.
