The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Tuesday the state lost 200 private sector jobs over the previous month.
The DWD said Indiana’s total private employment stands at 2,858,500, which is just below the state’s peak employment set in November. The loss of jobs last month was partially offset by gains in the professional and business services; private educational and health services; and manufacturing sectors.
The state’s labor force participation rate fell one-tenth of a percent to 63.2%, which remains above the national rate of 62.5%. The labor force, which includes residents who are either employed or seeking employment, stands at 3,420,262, down just under 3,000 from the previous month.
The DWD said the state had 99,200 open job postings as of Jan. 16, while 16,206 unemployment insurance claims were filed.
The state’s unemployment rate is lower than the national rate, which held steady at 3.7%.
