The publication partnered with New York advisory firm Plant-A Insights Group to compile the list based on factors including profitability, financial relevance, and risk exposures to financial uncertainties.
In addition to the evaluation of nearly 9,500 institutions, Newsweek used responses from an independent survey of more than 35,000 customers throughout the country, as well as more than 1.3 million social media reviews.
Each institution received a score of up to five stars. The Indiana representatives on the list are:
- Star Financial Bank (Fort Wayne) – 5 stars
- Indiana Members Credit Union (Indianapolis) – 5 stars
- Old National Bank (Evansville) – 5 stars
- German American Bank (Jasper) – 5 stars
- Three Rivers Credit Union (Fort Wayne) – 5 stars
- Horizon Bank (Michigan City) – 5 stars
- First Farmers Bank & Trust Co. (Converse) – 4.5 stars
- First Bank of Berne (Adams County) – 4.5 stars
- Citizens State Bank (New Castle) – 4 stars
“This is a special recognition for our entire German American Bank team,” German American CEO Neil Dauby said in a news release. “Our inclusion as one of America’s best regional community banks speaks to the strength of our Company and the dedicated efforts of our relationship and community focused team of professionals.”
Other banks that are headquartered outside of Indiana but do business in the state are also included on the list, such as Huntington National Bank, Wesbanco Bank, and Fifth Third Bank.
