News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indy Fuel today announced a broadcast agreement that will bring professional hockey action into the living rooms (and onto the mobile devices) of fans across the Indianapolis region. The ECHL expansion franchise has reached a partnership with WRTV-6, the area’s ABC affiliate, to showcase the team’s inaugural 2014-15 season.
RTV6 will broadcast the Fuel’s 36 home contests from the newly-renovated Fairgrounds Coliseum. Many of the games will be shown live on RTV6’s Hometown Sports & News Channel (HTSN), while key matchups – like the team’s home opener against the Fort Wayne Komets – will be broadcast on the station’s primary channel, live on WRTV. In addition to the game telecast, RTV6 News will preview the inaugural season with a 30 minute season preview TV special.
Fans will also be able to keep up with the team on www.TheIndyChannel.com and the RTV6 mobile app, available for iPhone/iPad and Android.
“We’re very pleased to work with RTV6 as our television partner as we open our first season and reignite Indy’s passion for pro hockey,” said Fuel team president Sean Hallett. “We wish every fan could be cheering alongside us at the Coliseum for every game – but if you can’t come to us, RTV6 will bring the action to you.”
“RTV6 and HTSN are proud to welcome professional hockey back to Indianapolis,” says Larry Blackerby, Vice President and General Manager of RTV6 and HTSN. “We’re excited to present all 36 Indy Fuel home games for this inaugural season.”
As head coach Scott Hillman continues to build a talented young roster, excitement is building towards the Fuel’s October 17th season opener, which rekindles an in-state rivalry with the Fort Wayne Komets. This I-69 grudge match will be shown live on RTV6, bringing the network spotlight as the puck is dropped for the first time at the newly-renovated Fairgrounds Coliseum.
“We are especially pleased to announce the very first game will be televised live on RTV6,” added Blackerby. “When the puck drops on Friday, October 17th, we’ll be there. It’s a new era for professional hockey in our region, and a perfect addition to the growing local sports programming already in place on HTSN as well.”
HTSN can be seen over-the-air on channel 6.2, and is available on numerous cable systems in central and southern Indiana, including Comcast and Brighthouse. For Comcast subscribers, HTSN is on channel 247; Brighthouse subscribers can find it on channel 410. For information on how to access HTSN visit www.TheIndyChannel.com.
Hallett noted that media partners like RTV6 will help the Fuel build a dedicated fan base, from Central Indiana to Chicago (with the Fuel’s NHL affiliate Blackhawks) and beyond.
“Our goal is putting an exciting, competitive team on the ice and delivering the best fan experience possible at the Coliseum,” he finished. “With partners like RTV6, we aim to deliver the best multimedia experience, too – whether it’s watching the games live or catching up later, following the Fuel anytime, anywhere.”
More details on programming and promotions from the Indy Fuel and RTV6 will be released as they become available.
