The Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority (CIRTA) is going fare-free on the route by eliminating its $1-a-trip fee, starting Jan. 2, the organization announced Tuesday.
“While paying $1 a trip might not seem like a lot, it can make a big difference for our riders,” CIRTA Executive Director Jennifer Gebhard said in a news release. “The Economic Improvement District (EID) boards of directors in Plainfield and Whitestown, which fund the majority of the service, voted to try this, so we’re going to test the concept in 2024.”
The workforce shuttles fill a public transit gap between IndyGo bus stops and e-commerce fulfillment centers. The service operates six days a week going between Carson Transit Center in Indianapolis and workplaces from 5:10 a.m. to about 7 p.m.
Eliminating the fare is an attempt to increase ridership and cut down on boarding times, CIRTA said.
