The Hatchery announced in a post on Facebook that increasing food costs and workforce difficulties contributed to the decision.
The Hatchery has operated in Angola for nearly 40 years. The restaurant’s menu touts a variety of seafood and steaks, including filet mignon, Atlantic lobster tails and sesame tuna.
“In the spirit of gratitude and commitment, we look forward to finishing this holiday season out strong at The Hatchery,” the restaurant said in its Facebook post. “Our heartfelt thanks go out to our dedicated staff, the backbone of our business. Daily interactions with our loyal customers and the camaraderie of our work family will be dearly missed.”
As the restaurant moves toward its last day on Jan. 13, owners Heather and Mark Adam Meston say they are shifting their focus to growing their other venture, Elizabeth Street Kitchen.
Elizabeth Street Kitchen allows patrons to order pre-made meals ranging from $20-$30 depending on the size of the order. The meals include items such as Tuscan garlic chicken and cheesy sausage and potato crock pot dinners.
The owners say they have plans for expansion into catering and a food truck.
“This strategic transition is not just about business; it’s about fostering a better work-life balance. By dedicating more time to Elizabeth Street Kitchen, we aim to create space for meaningful moments with our children and the pursuit of our culinary passion.”
