In January, SoIN Tourism will move into a space at 228 Spring St., Ste. 106 in Jeffersonville, combining its previously split tourism offices and visitor center.
Since the original center was opened 25 years ago, Executive Director Jim Epperson said in a news release that interstate access has changed resulting in fewer visitors checking out the center. The new location also opens us potential for business collaboration.
“Successful visitor centers today require foot traffic, and the new location, a block from the river and a block from Big Four Station Park, certainly has that,” Epperson said. “We hope this is the first of more visitor centers located in bustling downtowns.”
The new location will have self-service touchscreens and travel counselors available to direct people toward regional attractions.
“The visitor center will boast bright vibrant colors and provide an interactive environment that allows visitors to learn about the area’s exciting attractions,” said Alan Muncy, Arc founder and chief creative officer. “The interior components of the space include an elevated stage, video wall, sound system and overhead garage door.”
The former center and locations are up for auction.
