Amazon to build solar farm in Fountain County

Subscribe NowAmazon will build its fifth Indiana renewable energy project in Fountain County, the company announced Monday. The new solar farm will produce 200 megawatts of energy to support the company’s local operations.
The online retail giant did not immediately specify when the project would be completed.
Amazon’s current renewable energy projects product over 600 megawatts of energy, which is used to power its fulfillment and sortation centers, as well as delivery stations.
The company also said it provides new sources of clean energy to the local communities and its clean energy operations have generated $323 million in local economic investment. The projects supported 190 jobs last year.
“At Amazon, we’re constantly seeking innovative ways to bring more solar and wind projects online, bot to power our operations, and to bring new sources of clean energy to the communities where our customers live and work,” Nat Sahlstrom, head of energy, water and sustainability for Amazon Web Services, said in a news release. “These projects are also helping create jobs, support local businesses, and boost the local tax base, which are all part of Amazon’s broader commitment to become a more sustainable company.”
Amazon uses power purchase agreements to buy electricity from its farms; in turn, the company says those contracts allow the developers to build their operations.
Amazon’s other Indiana solar farms are located in Randolph, Huntington and Benton Counties.
