Cheesecake Factory to build southern Indiana bakery

The California-based restaurant chain plans to invest $74 million to build a bakery at the River Ridge Commerce Center in Charlestown and create more than 200 jobs by 2025.
The facility will be used to make and distribute the company’s cheesecake and other desserts to its restaurants, licensees and third-party customers.
“This year is the 51st anniversary of my parents opening the first Cheesecake Factory Bakery, and it also marks the 45th anniversary of opening our first restaurant in Beverly Hills,” Chairman David Overton said in a news release. “Over the last half-century our desserts have developed a reputation around the world, and we are so pleased that we’ll have a third bakery production facility to support our domestic and international growth into the future.”
An exact timeline for construction was not given. The company declined to provide additional comment to Inside INdiana Business beyond the news release.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. is offering The Cheesecake Factory up to $2.6 million in conditional tax credits and up to $100,000 in conditional training grants. The company will not be eligible to claim the incentives until Hoosier workers are hired for the new jobs.
The River Ridge Commerce Center is also offering tax savings worth $6.3 million and will make additional road improvements to support the proejct.
“This commitment by The Cheesecake Factory to bring its bakery production facility to River Ridge is a major moment for the commerce center and exemplifies the investment and rapid growth we’re creating on the Charlestown side of River Ridge,” said River Ridge Development Authority Executive Director Jerry Acy. “It is truly a pleasure working with David Overton and his team at The Cheesecake Factory, I am proud of what this partnership brings to Southern Indiana and the region.”
