The city of Anderson wants to attract 8,000 new jobs over the next 10 years. Our partners at The Herald Bulletin report the city is aiming for $2.1 billion in capital investment from current and new businesses. The director of Anderson's economic development department, Greg Winkler, says re-training and educating the work force will be vital to reaching those goals. He made the comments during a presentation Thursday to the Madison County Chamber of Commerce.

Winkler says the key components of the totals include attracting 60 new companies and starting 100 new job-creating projects within a decade.

He believes the city's efforts to reach global employers have paid off in recent years. Winkler says the city has more than doubled its direct contact with prospective international developers since 2012, compared to the previous two years.

He adds that the Mounds Reservoir proposal, a 2,100-acre plan for Madison and Delaware counties, would create a high number of jobs on top of those detailed in the presentation.
