IU names new admin in Innovation and Commercialization Office

Subscribe NowIndiana University has selected Nicholas Hammond as associate vice president of the IU Innovation and Commercialization Office, which provides resources and support for IU inventors and entrepreneurs taking research and innovations to market.
Hammond currently serves as senior director of the Department of Innovation and Technology Research at the American Dental Association Science and Research Institute.
“We are excited to have Nick lead the Innovation and Commercialization Office, overseeing IU’s efforts to bring IU faculty discoveries and innovation to market,” Russell Mumper, IU vice president for research, said in a news release. “Under his leadership, I am confident we will grow external R&D partnerships in order to ensure IU inventions are quickly able to positively impact Hoosier lives and our state economy.”
In his new role, IU said Hammond will contribute to the commercial goal of the office as well as grow engagement and research pursuant to the IU 2030 strategic plan.
“I understand the power of transformative research and innovation to drive economic and societal growth,” Hammond said in the release. “I am excited to return home to Indiana to work with my colleagues in the Innovation and Commercialization Office and across IU, and with industry partners to translate IU’s cutting-edge research into real-world impact.”
He will begin his new role on Nov. 13.
Hammond’s background features 15 years of leadership and research in technology intellectual property development, technology transfer, licensing and commercialization. Previous titles include chief operating officer at TeraImmune Inc., associate vice president for innovation and economic development at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, assistant director of the University System of Maryland Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology and chief science officer of Ablitech Inc.
His previous work has also resulted in several patents, publications and grants.
