Crews this month placed the final beam on the Horne Academic Center, which is slated to open next August.
The new building will house the university’s Film and Media program along with some entrepreneurship offerings.
The building will feature a domed entry hall, similar to that of the university’s student union, as well as auditoriums, sound stages, editing suites and classrooms.
Taylor’s Film and Media department has worked with design firm Design Collaborative for more than a decade to plan for the building. The university broke ground on the project last September. Fort Wayne-based Michael Kinder & Sons is the general contractor on the project.
The 45,000-square-foot center is funded by private donations, including from Taylor graduate Dee Horne, Chuck and Lisa Surack, Ken and Virginia Cornwall, as well as an anonymous gift.
