The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma verified the achievement after the hospital met the criteria for trauma care capability and institutional performance.
“Over the past three years, we have been working to build our trauma center,” Christy Claborn, trauma program manager at Franciscan Health Indianapolis, said in a news release. “Level IIIs are able to care for the majority of injured patients. We provide rapid access to surgeons, to the OR, and have trauma-trained physicians and nurses on staff. Our commitment to improving injured patient care keeps patients closer to home.”
The Indianapolis hospital, located at 8111 S Emerson Ave., applied to the state in February 2020 and was named to provisionally be a level III trauma center through the verification process.
ACS’s process provides confirmation of whether a hospital meets its high standards; it does not designate trauma centers.
