Our partners at WEHT-TV report the city’s parks and recreation board is proposing a plan to demolish the current pool and invest $8 million to build a new facility that will come with additional amenities.
The Jasper Municipal Swimming pool opened in 1956, and Park Department Director Tom Moorman said the pool has experienced numerous mechanical issues this summer, which led to several closures.
Moorman said plans for the new pool include two water slides, a one-meter diving board and three-meter diving platform, a climbing all, zip line, volleyball net and a wet deck, among other amenities.
Plans also feature a shade structure for reserved events, such as birthday parties.
Moorman said while the idea for a new pool has been floated for nearly a decade, now is the time to make it happen.
“We don’t have the ability to keep this pool going,” he told WEHT. “We are running out of baling twine and duct tape to hold thing together. We need to do a new pool.”
A specific timeline for construction has not yet been determined, but Moorman said he is confident the plans will move forward.
