Wesley Place Apartments is a $43 million project with 244 units opening near the IU Health Methodist Hospital expansion at 18th and Illinois streets. The development features 25 workforce housing units and up to 10,000 square feet of street-level space.
IU Health, Chatham Park Development and Arrow Street Development were represented at the ribbon cutting Tuesday.
“Wesley Place fulfills many of our goals for a more equitable and accessible Indianapolis, as housing remains a top priority,” Mayor Joe Hogsett said in a news release. “The City’s and Arrow Street’s shared commitment to enhancing quality of life will shape the Health District for decades.”
The project broke ground in 2021 and is located between multiple IndyGo stops serving the near north side of Indianapolis. The apartment complex, which is now leasing, features a pool, fitness center, resident lounge and pet park.
“We are thrilled to welcome residents to the Wesley Place Apartments today,” Arrow Street Development President Rodney Byrnes said. “Combined with IU Health’s multi-billion dollar hospital complex expansion, we are proud to be early leaders in the largest neighborhood development in the history of Indianapolis.”
The development is the first of two Arrow Street projects in the area. Hall Place, a 280-unit project adjacent to Wesley Place, is slated to break ground later this year.
“Wesley Place and soon-to-be-built Hall Place are the most significant residential investments in history in this part of town,” Chatham Park President Paul Vezolles said. “We’re replacing acres of old asphalt with new residents and walkable vibrancy. Placemaking is what we’re all about and these combined 520 units are just the beginning.”
Wesley Place is named after the first hotel serving the area. The hotel, built in 1925, was named for John Wesley, who founded of the Methodist Church. The hotel eventually became Wesley Hall, a residence for Methodist Hospital nurses.
