The Town of DuPont Board is seeking to finish the project with the funds that would be used to install a play space, drinking fountain, restrooms and basketball courts.
The project will transform the site of a long-closed elementary school. The organizers hope to make the area significantly safer for local children.
“Our committee and town are so excited to see these much-needed changes coming to our community,” Dawn Jines, Dupont Community Playground and Park Committee president, said in a news release. “Our new playground and park are going to be a wonderful place for families to gather and have picnics. Our children will have a safe place to play.”
If the campaign reaches its goal before Sept. 19, it will receive a matching grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, totaling at least $80,000 for the project. Three people have donated a total of $310 as of Friday afternoon.
Dupont is located in Jefferson County, about 78 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
The CreatINg Places program is open to not-for-profits and local governments, and eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000.
The IHCDA says its projects in the CreatINg Places program have raised more than $8.8 million in public funds and $7.2 million in matching funds since its inception in 2016.
