Wendy Dant Chesser, who has served in the role for over 10 years, is leaving for a position with the River Ridge Development Authority (RRDA) in Jeffersonville.
1si is the economic development organization and chamber of commerce for Clark and Floyd counties. Chesser is the 1si’s third president and first female to hold the position.
Laurie Kemp, immediate past chair of the 1si Board of Directors, said Chesser has led the organization through many economic successes, including securing one of five, $50 million allocations of grant funding from the state’s Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative, or READI.
“She helped 1si and many businesses weather the COVID storm and helped expand services and resources to our business members,” Kemp said in a news release. “1si and this community are the better for her service, and while we will miss her leadership within 1si, we are thrilled that she will continue to use her talents to the benefit of Southern Indiana.”
In late October, Chesser will begin her new role as chief director of corporate strategy and external affairs for the RRDA, which manages the River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville and Charlestown.
“Wendy will bring her passion for development as well as her extensive contact list to this new position,” RRDA Executive Director Jerry Acy said. “She will help us plan and implement the next decade of growth by continuing to serve Southern Indiana.”
Kemp said the 1si Board of Directors plans to outline a transition plan in the coming weeks, including a search for Chesser’s successor.
