Purdue’s Military Family Research Institute receives $5M grant

Subscribe NowPurdue University will receive a $5 million grant from Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc. to its Military Family Research Institute for its next three years of research and outreach to better the lives of active military, veterans and their families.
As part of Purdue’s Center for Families, the institute specializes in research, engagement and outreach concerning the improvement of military families’ well-being. According to the institute’s website, it helps to address the everchanging demographic makeup of the armed forces and their families.
The institute looks into the needs of military and veteran families, provides support to resources and other organizations and better acclimates veterans into civilian life through programs and policies, among other goals.
According to a news release, the institute looks to use the funding to strength its relationships with community organizations and further build the resilience of the families it serves.
“MFRI has demonstrated scholarly excellence for more than two decades, conducting groundbreaking studies that influence programs, practices and policies,” Purdue President Mung Chiang said. “We are proud to serve as such an important resource for supporting the quality of life for military and veteran families.”
Of the grant amount, $3.5 million was given outright with $1.5 million in matching funds. The grant period started in March and lasts until June 2026.
