Ivy Tech, Hanover partner on dual nursing degree path

Ivy Tech Community College Madison and Hanover College have announced a partnership that will allow students to simultaneously earn an associate degree in nursing at Ivy Tech, while also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Hanover.
Called the 1+2+1 model, undergraduates will take general education courses at Hanover during their first year. Then, during the second and third years, the students will be dual enrolled to earn the associate degree at Ivy Tech. During the fourth year, the nursing students will complete their undergraduate program at Hanover. They will live on the Hanover College campus all four years.
“This model is the first of its kind in Indiana,” said Ivy Tech Madison Chancellor Amanda Harsin. “We are proud of the innovation, and we applaud Hanover College collaborating with us and for building a path for students to use our premier faculty and facilities.”
Ivy Tech says it graduates 1,300 nurses annually, representing about one-third of all new Registered Nurses in Indiana.
The schools have partnered on previous healthcare degrees. Since 2019, the Ivy Tech Madison helped prepare Hanover students for state licensure of Certified Nursing Assistant positions.
The collaboration drove discussions about the potential for a joint nursing program.
“For years, Ivy Tech-Madison has been an important partner for Hanover College and our community, and we are excited to again be charting a new course together,” said Hanover College President Lake Lambert. “This partnership will transform nursing education in our region and will create tremendous opportunities for our students in the future.”
The 1+2+1 program will launch this fall.
