The grant came from the FORVIS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of CPA firm FORVIS LLP, which operates four offices in Indiana.
The center says it helps improve academic achievement and character develop among Black youth in central Indiana.
“The Center for Leadership Development works diligently to give youth and families across central Indiana access to one of our nation’s preeminent program experiences dedicated to nurturing the strongest character and the highest academic, post-secondary, and career achievement in African American youth,” said CLD President Dennis Bland. “We are so very grateful to FORVIS for its significant investment in our work, as we strive to make this vison of establishing an exemplary program model a reality for our city.”
The five-year fundraising campaign is in its fifth and final year and is nearing its goal, according to CLD.
The organization says through the Rise Campaign, it intends to open satellite locations in distressed Indy neighborhoods, partner with schools to provide programming, and double the size of its headquarters to increase program capacity.
FORVIS has offices in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Evansville and Fort Wayne.
