They are intended to give residents access to civil legal system resources who don’t have access to reliable internet at home.
Officials from the Indiana Bar Foundation, Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority, and Indiana Supreme Court unveiled the first of 120 IndianaLegalHelp.org kiosks in November.
The Indiana Bar Foundation says 90 kiosks have been delivered and installed and in use or are completing the final stages of installation.
The kiosks will initially focus on serving Hoosiers facing eviction or housing instability and will expand to include other legal topics later next year.
“Through IndianaLegalHelp.org and a network of statewide partners engaged in assisting Hoosiers facing housing-related civil legal issues, the Foundation is uniquely positioned to expand services statewide and connect underserved communities with services not previously accessible,” said Foundation President and CEO Charles Dunlap.
The kiosks provide a way for Hoosiers to easily access IndianaLegalHelp.org, a Foundation program that offers legal forms, instructional videos and referrals to free and/or low-cost legal services.
All 92 counties are anticipated to have at least one kiosk host site, and some counties have requested additional kiosks if more funding becomes available.
