Subscribe NowThe community development director for the City of Columbus is calling plans to redevelop a longtime eyesore an “incredibly positive coup.” Carl Malysz says proposals totaling around $23 million call for low-income housing and a nursing home to be placed on the site of the former Golden Castings foundry. He says remediation efforts for the property in the center of the city have been underway for more than a decade. Columbus officials are awaiting state approval on environmental assessment and tax credit requests before moving forward. The nursing home could cost an estimated $13 million and the housing complex would be around $10 million.
Malysz calls the plans for the land a “compliment of uses.”
The nearly 18-acre site is located in the middle of the Bartholomew County city.
Two companies, including Indianapolis-based WDG Construction Inc. and Gateway Apartments are involved in the proposals.
