CEO Beth Wrobel tells our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana the facility is being built in response to a growing need for affordable care from uninsured and underinsured residents.
HealthLinc is investing $15 million in the 39,000-square-foot facility near the Ivy Tech Community College campus in Michigan City. The clinic, which will be three times larger than its existing facility, is set for completion in early 2024.
The new location will provide a variety of services, including medical, dental, behavioral health, optometry, chiropractic, podiatry, obstetrics, and a full-service pharmacy.
HealthLinc says the clinic will also provide addiction services, a medical-legal partnership, health insurance enrollment assistance, and a community outreach team.
The organization is also partnering with Ivy Tech to create a learning lab for students looking to enter the healthcare workforce.
“Our Michigan City leaders continue to work toward economic inclusion throughout all facets of our quality-of-life offerings, from healthcare and workforce development to education opportunities and beyond,” Economic Development Corp. Michigan City Executive Director Clarence Hulse said in written remarks. “HealthLinc’s new space and continued commitment to providing care to all of our community members are vital to how we can create the economic inclusion that we are working toward every day.”
According to The Times, the new clinic will consist of three floors with services initially being provided on the first two. The third floor will be reserved for future expansion.
Wrobel tells the publication the current clinic in Michigan City saw about 9,000 patients last year.
HealthLinc operates more than a dozen clinics in East Chicago, Hamlet, Knox, La Porte, Michigan City, Mishawaka, South Bend and Valparaiso.
