Holiday World says all locations in the parks will accept major credit cards, as well as Apple Pay, Google Pay, HoliCash, and its new ReadyCARD. Guests will have the option to use a prepaid ReadyCARD, which will be available for purchase at the park’s cash-to-card kiosks.
“We’re always looking for ways to improve our Guests’ experience,” says Leah Koch-Blumhardt, Holiday World owner and director of communications. “Every day, our Food & Beverage Team serves tens of thousands of people lunch in just about 3 hours. Small changes, such as removing slower cash transactions, can make a huge difference in our service time.”
Holiday World joins a growing trend among entertainment venues and other retail environments choosing to abandon the almighty dollar bill in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier this year, the University of Notre Dame announced its plans to transition to a cashless campus, and Indiana University completed its transition to cashless payments for all ticketing, concessions and merchandise purchases at its athletic venues and shops.
“Removing cash is a trend happening at stadiums, amusement parks, and other destinations around the country,” adds Koch-Blumhardt. “One of our number one drivers of Guest satisfaction is wait times, especially if our Guests have to wait for lunch or their favorite snack. We’re committed to being one of the best-run theme parks in the world, and moving to cashless will help us make that next step.”
New research from the Pew Research Center may indicate that the trend is here to stay. In less than a decade, Pew says the share of Americans who go cashless in a typical week has increased by double digits.
Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari is set to open for its 77th Season in May 2023.
