Behavioral health nonprofit expanding in Miami County

Logansport-based behavioral health services provider 4C Health is expanding its services in north central Indiana. The nonprofit on Wednesday announced plans to invest $7 million to develop a state-of-the-art behavioral health hospital in Peru as part of the next phase of enhanced crisis services.
4C Health is renovating the former Miami County Medical Center, which it acquired in 2021. The location at 1000 N. Broadway Street was selected in order to provide more efficient access to the surrounding counties, the nonprofit said.
The 20,000-square-foot facility, renovations for which began this past summer, will allow 4C Health to expand its current crisis services to include adolescent inpatient, youth crisis stabilization and psychiatric urgent care.
When complete in the fall of 2023, the nonprofit says the facility will provide psychiatric inpatient services for adults and adolescents, a crisis stabilization unit for both adults and youth, outpatient behavioral health and addiction services, and integrated primary care services for behavioral health patients.
“When we look at best practices for medical care, it has long been understood that the pairing of emergency assessments, triage, inpatient care, and outpatient referral improves patient outcomes and more effectively manages our health care resources. Fundamentally, mental health care practices should be no different,” Dr. Mallery Neff, medical director for inpatient, crisis and primary care services for 4C Health, said in written remarks. “By ensuring that the full continuum of crisis services is available to both adults and adolescents, we increase the quality of patient-centered crisis care by tailoring psychiatric interventions to best meet the needs of the person in crisis.”
The nonprofit is also currently undergoing a $2.5 million remodel of its Logansport location. When complete next summer, the facility will provide comprehensive outpatient behavioral health and substance use services, as well as integrated primary care and Genoa Pharmacy services.
4C Health, formerly known as Four County employs more than 400 people across 14 counties. CEO Dr. Carrie Cadwell says they anticipate adding 15 employees in Peru and 10 in Logansport once the respective projects are complete.
The nonprofit says it plans to make continued investments in its transitional living facilities throughout 2023 to support adults living with serious mental illness.
