Rumsey views embracing the environment and challenges related to global warming will be important growth opportunities.
“We’re at a critical point for our planet and I think for Cummins’ history with climate change and with challenges in the world,” said Rumsey, who says the strategy is part of the company’s legacy. “Just as we embraced the need to reduce emissions from diesel engines, we’re embracing the need and our role serving some of the world’s most demanding and also economically vital applications and decarbonizing them.”
Rumsey talked about her vision for the company on this week’ edition of Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick.
Rumsey was named the company’s CEO on July 21, becoming the first woman to lead the company in its more than 100-year history. She succeeds Tom Linebarger, who will step down August 1 but remain chairman of the company’s board of directors.
Rumsey worked closely with Linebarger to create what Cummins calls Destination Zero, a strategy to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
“We have a really unique opportunity to step up to that challenge and make a big difference and I’m excited to lead the company as we do that,” said Rumsey.
