The health systems say the move will provide special access to Mayo Clinic’s knowledge and expertise in an effort to provide the best care possible.
Through the partnership, physicians from Hancock Health and Hendricks Regional Health will be able to tap into a variety of tools provided by Mayo Clinic.
“In the future, this relationship with Mayo Clinic will allow our care teams meaningful and timely access to some of the best medical specialists in the world,” Hancock Health CEO Steve Long said in written remarks. “In my estimation, there is no better combination than a trusted local physician working in concert with their counterparts at Mayo Clinic to provide the very best care close to home.”
The health systems say their physicians will have access to tools such as AskMayoExpert, which provides a database of clinical information on hundreds of medical conditions, as well as eConsults with Mayo Clinic specialists for second opinions on specific patient cases.
Other tools include live videoconferences with Mayo Clinic specialists and doctors at other Mayo Clinic Care Network health systems.
“It’s the next step in preserving, growing and innovating local access to the most patient-focused, highest quality, specialized care possible,” said Hendricks Regional Health CEO Kevin Speer. “At a time when health care affordability has never been more important to Hoosiers, this collaboration is a shining example of how we are expanding world-class medicine in west-central Indiana at no additional cost for patients.”
The Mayo Clinic Care Network, established in 2011, has more than 45 member organizations in the U.S., Asia, India, Mexico and the Middle East.
Hancock Health and Hendricks Regional Health join South Bend-based Beacon Health system as the only Indiana representatives in the network.
Steve Long and Kevin Speer will further discuss the partnership in the Business of Health segment on this weekend’s edition of Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick. You can find a list of statewide showtimes by clicking here.
