RecycleForce awarded $2M to support job training, employment

Indianapolis-based nonprofit RecycleForce has been awarded $2 million from the U.S. Department of Labor. The funding is part of the department’s initial round of grants to support job training and supportive services for justice-involved young people.
RecycleForce provides electronics recycling services, as well as transitional employment, training and support services to formerly incarcerated individuals.
The department says the funding is part of its Growth Opportunities grant program, which provides paid work experiences to youth impacted by community violence, specifically in areas where crime and poverty are concentrated. The program ultimately aims to put young people on a path towards earning a living wage and obtaining a quality career.
In total, the department is awarding more than $43 million to organizations in 11 states to support skills training, employment and mentorship services.
Earlier this year, RecycleForce was awarded a $5 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. in Indianapolis, as well as $200,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to support job training programs.
